Plurals part 2

2009-04-05

As mentioned last time, all parts of a sentence change in the plural form: the article, noun, and adjective. However, there are exceptions. When do you add an “s” or “es” to form a plural of a word?

1. When the noun ends with an unstressed vowel, add an “s”. Example:
lago (lake) become lagos.

2. When the noun ends with a consonant other than “s”, add an “es”.
Example: flor (flower) becomes flores.

3. When the noun ends with a stressed vowel, add an “es”. Example:
ingl
