Introducir y Presentar
2009-04-05Introducir y Presentar
Although these verbs are similar sounding to the English “to introduce” and “to present”, they shouldn’t be used exactly as in English.
For example:
Introducir means “to introduce”,
but it carries with it the idea of inserting
a thing into another thing, or bringing something
out of one place into another.
Presentar means “to present” and
has the same meaning as “to show”, “to submit”,
or “to introduce (a person)”.
The common mistake English speakers make is
when trying to introduce one person to another
and saying:
Quisiera introducir
Karen – “I’d like to introduce
Karen”. This
is wrong. In fact, it could
be even considered insulting or vulgar or just
plain funny. But allowance is given when it
is obvious that the speaker is non-Hispanic
and learning the language.
The correct
way of introducing someone is saying:
Quisiera presentar Karen.
